THE DIABLO SANK BENEATH THE SEA WITH $800 MILLION IN GOLD. IT’S A DEATH SHIP BUT TWO CHRISTIANS ARE DETERMINED TO FIND IT.
There is nothing more dangerous than a con man extraordinaire with a credible story. But Rutger Hollins not only has a credible treasure hunting tale, he has a gold doubloon and the backing of a respected, internationally known professor. Hollins wants divers to help him find the Diablo, a sunken Spanish treasure ship holding $800 million in gold and diamonds. Former police reporter and Christian Harrison Craig is skeptical but agrees to help Hollins, especially when he’s told the stunningly beautiful Coral Delaplaine, also a Christian, has signed on for the voyage. But a group of occultists is also searching for the vessel. The group is headed by Anton De Riles, a Black Arts master who has immense and deadly powers. But the Diablo has mysteries of its own. It hides a terrible secret and an ancient evil. Craig and Coral will fall in love during the voyage, but must battle on land, sea and under the sea and also fight supernatural demonic forces before they can claim the treasure. They must also fight the temptation that $800 million in gold can bring.
At Play in the Seas of the Lord edition by George L Duncan Religion Spirituality eBooks
George L. Duncan's new novel, "At Play in the Seas of the Lord," is possibly his finest achievement to date, and that's saying a lot considering the high quality of his first four books. "At Play" is a modern-day treasure-hunting adventure and sparkles with savvy, stylish prose, witty, believable dialogue, and profound spiritual insights. Duncan has earned a place among the finest Christian novelists working today. He is never preachy nor does he have any need to; his characters' dialogue and actions say it all. While Duncan's emphasis is on the Light, he is not afraid to acknowledge the Dark, or tangle with the supernatural. Although Christians will love this book, one does not have to be a Christian to appreciate Duncan's work. His prose, dialogue, wit, humor, fast-paced action, well-developed and believable characters will keep the most jaded skeptics as well as believers turning pages.Chip Ballard

At Play in the Seas of the Lord edition by George L Duncan Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
George Duncan's novel was a one-evening read. To be honest, most Christian-based action novels annoy rather than inspire me. The pages in "At Play" kept turning because I had to see the next move in this ping- pong paced action-packed thriller that permits readers to vicariously experience the tension between good and evil that has warred on earth and in the heavenlies since Adam and Eve were evicted from the Garden.
Mr. Duncan has put together a whale of a tale of sunken treasure, temptation, the occult, history, and redemption. If the word "efficient" ever applied to a fiction writer it applies here. Characters are developed quickly, deeply, and the reader is drawn into the quick-stepped dance of the intricate story line. The action and rabbit-trails of peripheral characters and events are effortlessly woven into the main story. The evil characters are completely and thoroughly evil and there is nothing to raise hackles among any Christian denomination.
The story is entertaining, graphically suggestive, surprising, and thoroughly enjoyable, but for Christians the payoff of this novel is witnessing what is possible when the naked power of God is displayed in real time. Of course this is the product of a writer's imagination, but beyond its immense entertainment value, the best part of this book is how it opens up the possibility of spiritual power to a faithful reader.
The book contains violence, sex, and human foible - but it is presented so well that the reader's imagination provides all detail. You could read the entire book aloud and not blush once.
On a practical note, the print edition I read could benefit from a few copy edits. It's not the first imperfectly produced work and it won't be the last. As a writer I tend to notice such things, but I was unexpectedly hooked by the story, the power, and the deft play of dialogue and Mr. Duncan's marvelous ability to draw readers efficiently into a scene with laser-guided descriptions. Words in this book pack punch.
Have you ever stood up against evil in the Name of the Lord? After reading this book you may feel brave enough to try. It is well worth the investment of your time and the purchase price. Enthusiastically recommended.
Duncan has created memorable characters whose story kept me turning the pages snapshots of authentic Christians reveal moral dilemmas without any preachiness. I'm still pondering a certain 'fearless' woman days after finishing the book. (For me, more editorial attentiveness would turn this raw gem into a shining treasure.)
At Play in the Seas of the Lord
This is the first book of Mr. Duncan's that I have read, and as soon as I completed it I was anxious to start into another of his works! The characters drew me into their lives immediately and the realistic way that Duncan captured their personalities kept me quite entertained as I anticipated the Good vs. evil scenarios to arise.
Good vs. evil, not just choices of right vs. wrong, but also deep struggles between the forces of evil and the protection of God over His children are present throughout the book. These thought-provoking scenes are creatively written giving insight into the characters' spiritual growth.
Placed between the action scenes the author provides an answer to the question of "Where was God during the Holocaust?" and offers a biblical application for many life questions concerning God's presence in times of crisis. Too often we make God's Word much more complicated to live by than His intent for us! Duncan shows how Faith in bringing God's Kingdom to earth provides strength to the characters during the final battle.
The elements of mystery and treasure combined with Faith and Love make this book appealing to a wide range of interests. The inspiration that can be taken away from the book may be life-changing!
