Knut Hamsun eBook Hanna Astrup Larsen
Quite a beautiful book by a Norwegian-American who met Knut Hamsun when visiting family back in Norway. Ms. Larsen gives extra insight into Hamsun through her knowledge of the places of his upbringing and the glimpses into his psychology they provide. She is also a sensitive reader of his books and has interpretations that will intrigue and sometimes challenge Hamsun fans. I have the original first edition beside me as I write this; it is only 171 pages but perhaps the frontispiece and contents and so on explain the 195 listed here. She published this, through Knopf, in 1922, so it only carries through his Nobel Prize-winning Growth of the Soil, 1917, and Women at the Pump, 1920. The references in the blurb above to later books of Hamsun's mystify me, unless there was a revised edition done years later -- which I doubt. I suspect the blurb is misleading. But if you like Hamsun, you will enjoy this book and definitely learn a few things more about him.Product details
